Athletic director plans to sail into the sunset

"He is a big man with a gentle heart," head coach of the men's basketball team Gary Cain said about Jeff Smith, current athletic director.

Smith will retire at the end of this semester after 21 of service to the Cerritos College community.

Earlier this year he was inducted into the California High School Hall of Fame and he was also inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Physical therapists given second chance at career

With more than 40 students enrolled, the Physical Therapy Assistant Program here at Cerritos, has had a good effect on the lives of all these students.

The high credited program was offered to those who previously worked as a physical therapy assistant and were on the verge of losing their jobs.

Students with signs in their hands and hankerchiefs over their faces were marching across campus last Thursday in protest to the millions of dollars on reserve at Cerritos College. The protesters want the Administration to make Puente and Project H.O.P.E part of its funding curriculum. They wore white handkerchiefs over their mouths to symbolize peace and silence.

Music professor hopes political career will be harmonious

Dr. Gary Pritchard, music professor, is running for the California state senate in the 33rd district.

Dr Pritchard has attended Chapman University, the Claremont Graduate School, UCLA, and UCI.

He holds a Ph.D. in the Social Sciences, and is a tenured professor in the Fine Arts and Communication Division of Cerritos College where he has been teaching since 1999, and in the summer, he lectures at UCI.

Members of the Cerritos College Forensics team displayed their talents in the Student Center to an audience of approximately 100 of their peers Tuesday in the "Night of Forensics" program.

Students from the college participated in a series of different varieties of speech and debate showcases that consisted of a Parliamentary Debate, poetry readings and a short acting skit, also known as Reader's Theater.

Nursing Department featured on TV show

New bill protects student press advisers

A new bill, SB1370 which was introduced by Senator Leland Yee, passed state Senate on a 35-2 vote last Monday.

The creation of SB1370: "Journalism Teacher Protection Act," follows a 2006 law that prohibits censorship of college press by administrators and protects students from receiving any form of discipline for using their free speech or press rights.

Falcons escape Mt.SAC comeback

Men's swimmer wins third state title

The Cerritos College softball team was extended to extra innings on Sunday by Chaffey College in the second game of a best-of-three series in the first round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs.
