What do you think about the cheerleading outfits?

Cheerleaders. Loud cheerleaders. Annoying, loud cheerleaders. Skimpy, annoying, loud, cheerleaders.

I went to the football game last Saturday and found myself utterly annoyed by the cheerleaders.

As soon as I saw them I was like, “Oh my God.”

I thought to myself, “What the hell are they wearing.”

Then I answered my own question, “Nothing.”

You would think that as the years pass by cheerleaders would get better at, well, cheerleading, but no.

Instead, they are getting better at explicitly showing off their body and hardly doing any cheerleading, if any at all.

It’s baffling when you go to a football game, or any game for that matter, and find yourself stopping dead on your tracks with jaws wide open over something that has nothing to do with the game at all.

Don’t get me wrong.

I have nothing against the cheerleaders.

Hell, I wanted to try out for cheerleading.

I was the captain of my drill and cheerleading squad a few years ago.

It’s the way they display themselves that truly disturbs me.

Small skirts and short shirts that could easily be mistaken for bras with added long sleeves is what they wear.

Some of the women had spandex shorts longer than the actual skirt.

The whole point of the under shorts is for them to be kept under the skirt, not on top of it.
And the shirts? Come on, really?

I don’t even think they should be called shirts.

There should be a term for something as revealing as that.

The closest thing I could think of really is: a bra.

Some of the other women would raise their arms to cheer and would show the lower portion of their bra.

We don’t need to see that.

Most people don’t go to football games to watch a whole bunch of half-naked cheerleaders.

Seriously, what’s the point? What’s their point?

What are they trying to prove? That they are attractive?

What are they trying to achieve out of wearing something like that?
What are they trying to get out of wearing pretty much nothing?

If they wanted to show off their bodies to more than half of the world, they might as well be strippers.

Then at least they would be doing what they want to do and be getting paid for it.

The cheerleaders would be getting something for wearing nothing.

As she was passing by me, I heard one of the cheerleaders say, “My skirt is not short enough.”

I think from that point on I was just disgusted.

Hey, if you’ve got a nice body, show it off.

Just don’t display yourself in the wrong way.

Don’t come off as an easy, skimpy cheerleader.

I told my friend what I had heard and he said, “Yeah. I agree with them.”

Then he laughed.

I guess that’s what they are looking for.

They want attention from guys, or any attention at all.

Maybe they get satisfaction out of knowing or thinking that guys actually find them appealing.

Honestly, if you feel you need to show off your legs and stomach to feel comforted, then you really have reached a low level of self-esteem.

Don’t be so damn insecure.

Don’t think you need to show your body off to get noticed or get any sort of respect.

Respect yourself and give yourself some real value.

If you’re a cheerleader, cheer your butt off, but don’t show your butt off.

Because seriously, by wearing what you are wearing, you are just asking to get laid.

As a former cheerleader and captain of two years at Cerritos….I can see both sides of the issue. Yes, the uniforms do seem short. But this is a reality check, all-star uniforms are just as bad, and you can’t blame a program for trying to advance them-selves in what they do. It takes years of practice and injuries in order to perform at the caliber that they are at. You being a former cheerleader should know this, and if you don’t then shame on you. An apology should be offered to the program and individuals that you personally attacked. I think it’s foolish to attack a sports team on campus, and especially to add your name to it. Yes, they may all be adults, but how does it feel knowing that you paved yourself a path with about thirty angry people behind you?

To whatever the hell an Elieth is You have alot of anger and envy for these talented young ladies who for the most part have awesome bodies. sounds to me that you probally look like Egor or something close to that!
these uniforms look great! Some of these girls have what it takes to take to pro cheerleading! your so called opinion really puts you on blast it sounds like your crying out for help! A bit of advice instead of spending your time writting for the school paper why don't you seek the professionally help you so despratelly needed these girls have given up valuable hours of practice to support their college and rally the crowd. I,m sure your mother must be proud knowing she raised a daughter with no self esteem, so you feel the need to put these girls down. I wonder what your opinion would be like if you had a chance of making the team. I hope to met you at future games I would love to hear you talking about my beautiful daughter in such a demeaning way. Seriously think about my advice I know a place that offers free counsling for shallow minded people like you. Get a life,we do not need your opinion!

THE WRITER SHOULD WRITE A RETRACTION TO APOLOGIZE FOR SUCH SLANDER. CHEERLEADERS ARE ATHLETES; ALTHLETES SWEAT. SO, SOMETIMES LESS IS BEST! YOU, OUT OF ALL PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW THIS SINCE YOU ARE/ WERE A "GYMNAST". LAST TIME I CHECKED GYMNAST WORE LEOTARDS. HMMM...WHICH BRINGS BACK THAT RULE THAT "LESS IS BEST"! NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF PESPIRATION ISSUES, BUT FOR SAFETY! SURE BEATS A BROKEN FINGER FROM STUNTING AND CATCHING A FLYER WEARING LOOSE ARTICLES OF CLOTHING. IN THE SPORT OF CHEERLEADING THESE MICRO-FIBER UNIFORMS COME A LOOOONNNNG WAY SINCE THE ANCIENT POLY YOU (THE WRITTER) WERE PROBABLY SUBJECTED TO. THE COACHES PICK THE UNIFORM NOT THE GIRLS. MIDRIFF ALSO MOTIVES THOSE WHOM LACK THE PERFECT PHYSIQUE TO WORK JUST AS HARD TO MAKE THEMSELVES AND THEIR SCHOOL LOOK AMAZING. SO, INSTEAD OF BASHING THESE WOMEN, WHY NOT TRYOUT AND PROVE YOU CAN DO BETTER! SINCE YOU THINK YOU'RE SO CAPABLE OF DOING SO?! OH YES, PLEASE REFRAIN FROM USING INAPPROPRIATE COMPARISONS THAT WILL HURT PEOPLE. IF YOU DO IT AGAIN , THEN I'LL BE THRILLED TO SHOW YOU THE MEANING OF BRING IT ON!

and especially LETICIA!

Every single one of you sound very ignorant & just plain out stupid.
All of you are praising Elieth for having "the balls" to say what she did, but what about the brave cheerleaders that went out wearing what they were wearing in front of everyone that was at the game??? That takes plenty of courage. Elieth said they are insecure???? Well obviously not! Their uniform is exactly that, A UNIFORM! they should not be judged by what they are wearing or not wearing. i personally didn't find anything wrong with the way they looked. I also enjoyed watching them on Saturday at the game. For them to be compared to stippers is just slander. I seriously would not call this an opinion column, it goes way further than that. I have heard people talk about this article around campus and almost everyone i have spoken to about it completely disagreeS with it. It is one thing to state an opinion, it is another thing to just be plain mean and that is what this article was...MEAN!

I agree with everything that Michelle wrote in her comment. Elieth, sweetheart, if you want a career in journalism, start doing research about what you are going to write about next. If you want to talk about how little their uniforms are, take a look around. All you ave to do is simply click onto the internet. Look up strippers, then, look up cheerleaders. You will see that there is a huge difference. I really hope that something is going to be done about this. The publisher of the article should have never had it approved. Niether of them should do any work for Talon Marks.
There are way more imortant things to talk about other than the cheerleaders. Leave them alone.
Maybe Elieth tried out and didn't make it.
A lot of people say that you are jealous of what you can't have.
Well Elieth... there's always next year! haha!

Personally, I think this article is dumb. This is a college newspaper like many of these comments are saying. This article sounds like you're in high school again. I really think you should take some journalism classes because this just sounds like a typical myspace blog or something of the sort. No one who is in college wants to hear stupid, ignorant comments like these. Who are you to judge them and what they wear? If they want to wear mid-drift uniforms, then that's what they are going to wear. If you don't like it, don't show up to the games. Simple as that.

Elieth, I truly believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, if you want people to take your opinion seriously, you need to take out your inappropriate use of foul language and sexual comments. Grow up, your in college now. To compare the cheerleaders to strippers, is like camparing your article to real journalism. Polar opposites. This article belongs on "My Space" not in a college newpaper. Shame on the editor and advisor for letting your article get published without edits. FYI .... most college cheerleaders have similar uniforms.

I agree with Elieth. These girls look like whores. But you know what? They KNOW they look cheap and they like it, just be happy its not you wearing a bra & undies in public. Pathetic.

Leticia,

You sound like you would be friends with Elieth. You talk alot of non sense. (Editors, what happened to filtering the comment pages? Other people can look at this and think our school is ghetto.... hmmm. Leticia sure makes it seem like it) Anyone can have the balls to slander. A REAL opinion article doesn't degrade people. If you're friend can't handle this kind of reaction maybe she needs to stop writing or maybe she needs to move to another section in the paper and stay out of the "opinion" column. Seriously. You two sound unintelligent. I can't wait for the next paper. Maybe she's slander me next.

and FYI maybe I will join the newspaper next semester if I have room in my schedule. Elieth apparently needs a replacement.

Most of the people here commenting are supposed to be college students? Cerritos is just a mere level above high school! Perhaps that is why you people do not understand the part of what an opinion article is supposed to be. An opinion article is just that, a personal opinion nothing more and nothing less. The witter of this article is entitled to her opinion weather people agree or disagree in an entirely different matter all together. Lets think this logically, if you disagree with an opinion of one of your professors, should he or she apologize to the class for voicing their opinion? Of course not! Why? Simple, people must take things for what they are, just an opinion and everyone is entitled to their own!

Yes in my opinion, some people should NOT be wearing certain types of outfits, I personally do not like the "muffin" look that some of the cheerleaders have but yet they seem to think that they look great when in reality its awful! But again, if thats what they want to wear then so be it, they too are entitled to look how they want to look.

The underling question is what type of image do you want an official school team to portray? Do you want to be known for the "muffin" cheerleader squad? Or do want to be known for a spirited uplifting yet athletic cheerleader squad? If some of the members of the squad are not as physically fit as others, then perhaps a decision should be made as to what is the best possible uniform that will make EVERYONE look good as a whole and not just a few good looking well fit cheerleaders.

I definitely have to agree with the witter in that people should dress appropriately and if that is their uniform, at least wear it properly with out having pink bras showing, at least wear a matching color bra that will blend in in case that a bit may slip out, that's dressing appropriately. Its like seeing a female wearing a white shirt with a black bra, that's a no no and it should be the same for the squad. Again my own opinion to which I am entitled to!

should being handed the opinion column even be considered newspaper staff? and what was written in this column wasn't even an opinion, it was slander. you can talk about free speech all you want and voicing your thoughts but what this article did only put down a group of hardworking women to which it seems to make only yourself feel better. How could something like this be approved when there is so much negativity being put on a group from it's school?

oh and michelle...if you wanted to write and express your opinions why don't you join the newspaper staff? see how you like it. you talk about telling her to put on a uniform and cheer? why don't you grow some balls and write? let's see how you handle it. i don't think they would accept you though. It's "more dumb" not "anymore dumber." That just shows how "more dumb" you really are.

michelle is probably a cheerleader who got her feelings hurt. dumb girl. Who cares if Elieth may not cheer good enough? have you seen her cheer? And her article was not about cheering. I agree with Maricela when she tries to say it's about the attire. She is not getting into their personal life. She just dislikes their uniform. It's her opinion. And yes i also agree.....you should do more research because Elieth has written some rather important articles prior to this one. So no her writing is not ghetto. I'm pretty sure you are though because you definitely sound like you have been deeply affected by Elieth's comments. She's not the first one to think them. She just is the first one to put them down and show them to the rest of the school and the world for that matter because it's online. So michelle and whoever else got their feelings hurt....don't expect any apologies. She doesn't need to. Instead go see a conselor or a therapist. Or better yet...go cheer!!!!! and she mentioned she was the captain of her squad so i highly doubt she sucked at cheering.

Leticia is it?
First of let me just say, before you try to spell check someone else, LEARN HOW TO SPELL YOURSELF.
Secondly i personally enjoyed watching the cheerleaders perform. Those girls went out there and did what THEY like to do, becasue THEY enjoy it! who are you to call them names and why are you so concerned with there personal lifes.
Everyone is making such a big deal of the cheerleaders personal life. GET OVER THEM.
Seriously how can you possibly judge them on appearance. Do you know anyone of them? Do you know where they came from or past struggles they have been through?NO, YOU DONT. the cerritos cheer girls never did anything to disrepect either you two....just shows how you were brought up!.Not only that but seriously GROW UP AND WORRY ABOUT YOUR FUTURE NOT SOMEONE ELSE'S!!!!!
In that ANNOYING AND HORRIBLY WRITTEN ARTICLE (NO WONDER YOUR IN CHARGE OF THE OPINION PART OF THE PAPER) you said that the girls were inscure? HAHAHA. That has got to be the funniest thing i heard all day. Its not easy to get up in front of a crowd of people and cheer. HELLO?! Sorry to state the obvious but i guess we have some slow readers here!
Another thing, how they displayed themselves? Can you get anymore dumber???
THE BASIC'S OF CHEERLEADING 101:
1.SMILE
2.SMILE
3.IF YOU FEEL STUPID YOUR DOING IT RIGHT!
Leave the way they dance and the way the present them selves up to them, i think its so funny how someone can write a whole article about them. The cheerleaders have come along way, there doing new things. NEW STUNTS, BETTER TUMBLING, NEW DANCES. No one is ever going to be satisfied with cheerleaders because of all the degrading. But those girls do what they like for themselves. END OF STORY. Gosh i feel like were back in high school again. Everyone has a finger to point and no one can just accept people for who they are, and really take the chance to get to know them. GO TO THERE PRACTICE AND YOU TRY TO DO WHAT THEY DO. YOU PUT ON A UNIFORM. AND TO THE WRITER,,,YOUR WRITING IS GHETTO!
OO and yes you should apologize to both the coach and girls. The next article you write try to be more open minded to others feelings, likes and dislikes. and if you have so much hate for the cheerleaders, thats to bad.
YOUR NOT GOOD ENOUGH TO BE A CHEERLEADER ANYWAYS,,ALOT OF THEM ARE WAY PRETTIER THAN THAT "Elieth" GIRL.
I HOPE YOU ENJOY MY OPINION! PEACE OUT!

come on guys wtf??? it's her opinion. u may not agree with it but oh well. too bad. honestly i agree with her. the cheerleaders look like a bunch of sluts. like the girl in the picture above. her lard is coming out from all sides of her, i quote chip "skort". i don't know about you but i think that's NNNNAAAAASSSSTTTTYYYY! and chip..... she wasn't talking shit about the school. she was making HER OPINION in reference to the uniforms. so if anyone thinks she needs to go apologize to the coaches and the girls....kiss my ass. if you can't take constructive criticism then you sure as hell aren't going to survive in the real world. and the coaches? why should she apologize? it's their fault for making their girls look like easy whores. what? are you scared they aren't good enough so you gotta go and make them show some skin? yeah other teams do it. so the f**k what? I thought cheerleaders were supposed to be original. of should i say O-R-I-G-I-N-A-L ...OOOORRRRIIIGGGIIINNNNAAALLLL!!!! there's some cheering for you. so for all you cheerleaders.....GET OVER IT!!!!!there's more to life than cheerleading. life goes on. you look like a slut!! a nasty one too. if they were attractive i'm pretty sure even elieth would'nt mind. hell i wouldn't mind and i'm a girl. oh and.....for one of the comments before mine.....to the chick that's a cheerleader...USE THE LETTER M!!!! gosh for a effin cheerleader you sure as f**k don't know how to spell. oh and "kristy" ur right . It's not an open forum. IT'S AN OPINION ARTICLE AND THE WRITER CAN WRITE HOW SHE WANTS TO WRITE ABOUT HER OWN DAMN OPINION! in my opinion.. your writing annoys me. you sound like a stuck up know it all.
and no if everyone is wondering ...i don't know elieth. but i respect her for being the first to truly speak her mind and not be afraid let alone beat around the bush about the skanky cheerleaders. ALL THE POWER TO ELIETH'S BALLS!!!! i bow to you my friend...:) you can count on me to kick any other asses if you'd like. i'll e-mail you my number. oh and this one guy said to me that "elieth's probably mad 'cause she aint' got the body to show off." you know what? HELL NO!!!! you're effin wrong. this chick was interviewing my friend from the water polo team and you know what? ELIET'HS GOT A HELLA FINE BODY! she's got a rockin booty to go along with the balls and the "i don't give a f**k" attitude other girls are jealous about 'cause they can't pull it off. you got a good head on your shoulders elieth. you're doing what a reporter is supposed to do. to all the haters out there..."QUIT HATTIN ON WHAT YOU CAN'T HANDLE" if you can't handle a damn good article over an opinion that's different to yours....SUCK IT UP!!! grow some balls for god's sake...but even then you couldn't have as much or as big as the almighty elieth.
well that's it...for now....i'm pretty sure many people are going to talk s**t about this. oh well. shows how much of little weiners you are 'cause you cant handle an outspoken and brave person.
laters my peeps!!!
oh and elieth...... because of you i'm now damn glad to be a cerritos college student. the world needs people like you to tell it like it is. regardless whether other people agree. i'm glad there's at least one person on this campus that's not aliar.. with writing like this....you're goiong to make it far. screw people. if they don't agree with you too bad. you ain't gotta please them. as long as you're honest about what you're saying and stick to your beliefs. i admire you. keep doing what you gotta go. keep your head up. smile.....

To the person who wrote this article and also to the editor.

Honestly you really have to do research before you post articles like this up. College cheer is way different than "being captain of my drill and cheerleading squad a few years ago". Cheerleading has evolved from "a few years ago". I have been a cheerleader for 13 years. I've been on many National Competitive Squad, have won many National Titles, and have also coached Nationally Competitive Teams. So I have seen cheer evolve, I have been a part of that change, and let me tell you that what the Cerritos Cheer team wears is more than a lot of other teams that are out there. For example OCC, LBCC, and Long Beach State.

Honestly I think the WRITER OF THIS ARTICLE and THE EDITOR of the Newspaper definitely need to apologize to not only the Coach of the team but to every member on that team. Those girls practice hard, and you have no right to slander them the way Elieth Koulzons did.

SORRY ELIETH BUT OPEN YOUR EYES: You talk about skimpy clothes and looking like sluts...but have you ever taken a look at the world itself? There are far worse things you can actually comment about.
