The Cerritos College men’s soccer team failed to capitalize on its eight shots on goal during its match up on Tuesday as the game ended in a 0-0 tie against Oxnard College.

Falcons forward Ruben Gonzalez had a breakaway chance early in the game but was denied the chance to score when Oxnard goalkeeper Andrew Singer blocked his shot.

“I will do better next game. I missed many opportunities in this game, ” Gonzalez mentioned.

Gonzalez’ next chance came when Falcons midfielder Cesar Castillo passed the ball to Gonzalez’, who then missed the shot as he hit it against the crossbar of the goal. “Not being able to score was what really got to us as a team, “Gonzalez said.

During the second half of the game, the Condors controlled the game with the possession of the ball and the amount of shots on goal.

Head coach Benny Artiaga was not pleased with the performance from his team.

“We tried a lot of things today but none of it seemed to work. For every two steps we took forward, we took one step back,” Artiaga said.

Oxnard coach Bryan Hill feels satisfied about the tie. “We played pretty well after about the first fifteen minutes. We just have to stick to our game plan and once we spread teams out we create better chances and our discipline will shine through,” Hill said.

The Falcons next game will be at home against Taft College. “We just have to be more aggressive,” Artiaga said.
