Arizona bill encourages racism

With the passing of a new immigration law in Arizona, comes the rebellion and strife of those in surrounding states that disagree.

Senate Bill 1070, which hasn’t been enacted as of May 4, enables police officers in Arizona to engage in a form of racial profiling. Giving law enforcement the opportunity to stop a person because they look like they are illegal is wrong both morally and ethically.

How can you possibly have probable cause to stop a person for the possibility of being an illegal citizen without profiling race?

An officer isn’t going to stop a white person for being illegal; they are going to stop a Hispanic-looking person because that is whom the target is.

When did America become so “free” that we no longer allow people to be free?
When did we allow our governments to openly and without hesitation stop law-abiding individuals because of skin color?

The country is going backwards. All too soon, segregation and full on racism will be rampant amongst the streets of America.

The inaction of this law and the prejudice it brings is just the first stepping-stone to black, white and brown buses, drinking fountains, and schools.

If we let our governments get away with deliberate discrimination, we are letting our people, and the people that want so badly to live like we do, free and able to live life without fear of deportation or discrimination.

The new law is basically a slippery slope. They may say that they are not profiling, but how can you not when you know for a fact that Mexicans comprise more than half of the illegal immigrants. Of course they would be more keen on suspecting Mexicans of being illegal immigrants than say Asians, Europeans, etc--which is what racial profiling is.

I'm also getting tired of Americans saying we lost our jobs to illegal immigrants. You can blame our capitalist economy for that. Do you think fast-food joints pay illegal immigrants minimum wage? I know a couple of guys being paid 4$/hour. To top that, most companies here are moving outside the U.S. for cheap labor; companies such as Apple pay Chinese workers 2$ a DAY. If we deported all of the illegal immigrants, the crops and fruits would rot, no one would clean our toilets, no one would cut out grass, etc. Why? Because most Americans feel they are worth more than 8$/hour, they feel entitled to other jobs. Funny, I don't see white/black/asian people trimming my lawn.

They would not have to worry about being deported if they were here legally. While I think that the law maybe going to far, you can not deny that the number of illegal immigrants is not a problem. While not all are causing problems there are enough that is causing a burden on the system. We the tax payers (who they are not) are paying for their education, medical bills, and other bills. In 2004 Illegal Immigrant cost the state of California around $10,000,000,000.00 (Ten Billion Dollars). That is about $1,183.00 a year per house hold.

Yes this country was built by illegal immigrants but we have sense but laws and procedures that need to be followed in order to insure that we the LEGAL citizens of this country are protected.

Like I said I do think that the law maybe going to far but there needs to be something done. I propose that those of you who are against this bill find an alternative.

There is a reason why they are called ILLEAGAL IMMIGRANTS.

Whoever wrote this story needs to get the facts straight! They are not going to go through the streets and start arresting every mexican. They are only going to check that status of the criminals!!! First of all, anyone who comes over the border illegally has already broken the law!! I'm sick of everyone who has come here illegally demanding rights!!! Lets see what happens to Americans how go to Mexico and demand rights. Shut up and go back to Mexico!!!
