The Cerritos College Art Gallery displays a variety of mediums like ceramics, charcoal on paper, clay, water color on canvas, graphite on paper, video, 3D animation, ink on paper, screen print, etching, plaster and oil on canvas.

The annual award ceremony for student art, design and photography reception was held on Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. but the gallery will be open through June 4.

Admission is free.

This will feature the work of more than 100 different students hand-picked by Cerritos College.

George Dinhaupt, photography professor, said, “I chose three students this semester. I looked for how the students challenged themselves, if they took risks and the commitment to their work.”

Christina Fernandez, art gallery director, said, “Karen Atkinson judged the all of the student artwork, she is the founder of Get Your Shit Together organization.”

Faculty chooses the students’ work to be displayed at the Cerritos College art gallery.

Students choose from their artwork and submit an entry form.

Students are also entered in the contest to received awards.

Rocio Estrada, photography major, said, “Mr. Dinhaupt called me and told me that he wanted to get my photo. I didn’t like my picture at first but I am getting more and more compliments. I think I’m starting to like it now, I feel so cool this is the first time that my work has been displayed.”

Friends and family attended the reception to see the artwork.

Rosemary Perez of Santa Fe Springs, said, “I’m here to support my friend, Michelle Santos, art major, she has her ceramic piece on display, I think it’s cool that the college show that world what the student are doing.”

The students that have their work on display feel recognized and proud.

Marcos Garcia, photography major, said, “This is the first time my work is displayed. It’s a nice feeling, to see my work among all this good art. There is some talent here.”
