With this economy, beauty is sometimes left at the bottom of the priority list.

A little extra money left in the pocket is usually not enough to cover even a haircut.

The Cerritos College Cosmetology Department is aware of this tragic and unfortunate event, and has come up with a clever solution.

Every Monday throughout the rest of the semester, the department will be cutting hair for $1, with the shampoo and conditioning included.

“We wanted to offer this service because of the economy, we wanted to bring more students in to see what services we offer in our department,” said cosmetology club president Bridget Alvarez.

Alvarez, who organized the $1 Monday promotion, feels it’s a great idea because “it gives cosmetology students a chance to practice and get hands on experience.”

 “So far we haven’t heard of any complaints, clients leave satisfied with their haircuts,” she said.

The promotion started last Monday and the cosmetology students have already had a few clients come in seeking their services.

“We definitely want more clients coming in to get haircuts, more clients means more practice and more of the students here get to cut hair.”

Daisy Alvarez, undecided major, stated, “It’s a good thing because a lot of people don’t have money.”

Even though they only operate during certain hours on Monday through Friday, the department takes appointments.

The Cosmetology Department is located in the Health Science Building on the 2nd Floor Room 202.

They accept Visa, MasterCard, and cash, however they do not accept anything over $20.

Parking lot C-11 has pink stalls designated for Cosmetology clients.
