Fanning impressive in The Runaways

Rock n’ roll music lovers headed to the theatre last Friday for the premiere of “The Runaways,” a film about the short-lived all-girl rock band from the 1970s.

The trailer gives audiences the impression that they’re going to see a movie about the entire band and its career. The movie does give the gist of the story, but it mostly centers around the lead singer, Cherie Currie, played by Dakota Fanning.

Fanning does an impressive job at playing a rock n’ roll rebel who got caught up in the glitz and glamour of the music industry.

Kristen Stewart, best known for her role as Bella in the Twilight movies, does a not-so-impressive job at portraying the iconic Joan Jett.

The other members of the band were barely given any camera time or the chance to show their side of the story. Perhaps this has a lot to do with the fact that Joan Jett herself was one of the executive producers of the film.

The film, written and directed by Floria Sigismondi, has a soundtrack that rock lovers will appreciate. But the storytelling behind the music of “The Runaways” definitely leaves audiences wanting more.
