Miriam Bricio, art major,  has created art since she can remember. Her father, sister and grandmother are artists, as well, and her “home is very artistic; my backyard and garage are like art studios.”

Bricio has been chosen to exhibit her art work, after submitting her work and being hand-selected by Raw: Natural Born Artists, on March 10 at the Elevate Lounge in Downtown Los Angeles.

Classmate Elizabeth Gonzalez, art major, said that “she works very hard. I know she manages a coffee shop, attends school and is also an artist.”

She plans to attend the art program at Cal State Long Beach after Cerritos College, and eventually wants to become an art history teacher because she desires to evoke inspiration from her students by teaching them about past artwork.

Rebecca Guzak, Cerritos College art instructor, said that Bricio is “warm, intelligent, kind and friendly. She is very deserving of this wonderful opportunity of exhibiting her work.”

Bricio feels that displaying her art at the Raw showcase creates a great opportunity.

“Because [at the showcase] they have scouts from companies like Coca-Cola and Pepsi that hire people to create their ads or music,” Bricio said.

According to rawartists.org, Raw: Natural Born Artists is an independent arts organization, for artists, by artists.

Its mission is to provide independent artists of all creative genres with the tools, resources and exposure needed to inspire and cultivate creativity.

Attendees can also purchase artwork at the event.

Tickets can be purchased for $10; this is a 21-and-over event.
