Girl Talk at the top of his game

As “Imagine” by John Lennon resonated to the 4,000 people throughout the Hollywood Palladium, a huge canopy of multi-colored balloons fell upon the sell-out crowd, and for a moment in time, life was suspended in a perfect, magical kind of revelry.

Unforgettable moments like that one permeated Girl Talk’s (Gregg Gillis) concert in the Hollywood Palladium on March 26, the final show of his current tour.

Girl Talk is known for reinventing fan favorites such as “Blitzkrieg Bop” by The Ramones and “Juicy” by The Notorious B.I.G. with the twists he introduces in his genre-mixing mashups.

He is uncommon among other artists in that his live shows are entities in themselves, showcasing mixes unique to those featured in his past albums.

His brand of live mixing kept people in the audience on their toes, dancing madly and singing along at the top of their lungs throughout the night.

Girl Talk knows exactly what to do and when to do it to blow the roof off of a venue.

He aptly showcased that in the Palladium, synchronizing songs everyone knows the words to with confetti, balloons, giant inflatables, and even toilet paper launchers.

The accompanying light show was incredible.  Pixelated screens ordained both his DJ table and the huge backdrop behind him, creating a bright, beautiful wall, constantly shifting colors, shapes, and words to the music being played.

In true Girl Talk fashion, volunteers from the audience were selected to dance, sing and enjoy the show onstage, surrounding Girl Talk as he performed.

The concert truly offered something for everyone.

Front row enthusiasts indulged in the inescapable swaying wave of people packed into the front of the crowd.

Others that like to dance more freely, such as myself, could move a little farther back into the naturally-forming dance circles that allow any people willing, to show off their moves.

Even attendees that wanted to relax and admire the show from afar could watch from the laid-back atmosphere in the rising balconies the Palladium boasts.

Overall, this concert was an amazing, fun time, with non-stop dancing and singing that is sure to bring great enjoyment to anyone attending.

The fervent, exultant, feel-good atmosphere that Girl Talk creates in his live shows is nearly unparalleled by any other musician today.

It’s safe to say that Girl Talk is at the top of his game right now, and he isn’t going anywhere but up.

The bottom line is that his show is one of the best out there, and a must-see concert for all music fans to experience.
