Carlos Blandino – Scott Henderson Concert

People line up out the Burnight theatre buying tickets at 7 p.m to watch the 14th annual Scott Henderson memorial scholarship concert on Friday April 8, 2011.

The concert was presented by Cerritos College music department which brought some of the best musicians from Cerritos that were scheduled to performed.

Like Eisha Del Villar playing Beethoven classical piece Sonata in c minor on the piano or Rusty Kennedy playing bass and Kris Raman on the Electric Guitar performing Holy wars and punishment from Dave Mustaine.

Bringing to the Scott Henderson concert different style of music at Cerritos like performing heavy metal for the first time but also giving scholarship to music major students from Cerritos College.

Like Reneelyn Caneros, Janet Cisneros, Micheael Herrera, Jennifer Ornelas, Kris Raman, Phyllis Reimer, Angel Torres who received Scott Henderson scholarship.

The concert also had other presentation of scholarships that were given away to six other Cerritos College students from Yamaha, Pepsi, Ernest Antony Gonzalzez and the Dan Seager memorial scholarship.  

One of the performers was Javier Castillo majoring in music and he also explained that he was happy how his performance of prelude from Bach went out and said ” I feel satisfy how my performance turned out and also glad that I got out some technicality out” Castillo explained.

One of the other performers was Christopher Moreno majoring in music he performed El Ultimo Tremolo from Agustin Barrios Mangore.

” I think it went great it was wonderful for everyone that came it had some great performances for one night and it had showed what Cerritos had to offer” said Moreno he also explained that it was his first time performing at Cerritos College and added that he will be performing more often.

Cindy Hernandez majoring in music also performed I had myself a true love on mezzo soprano by Harold Arlen and said ” its my third time performing in this concert but the nerves still come its when I think about the work I put in is what helps me take my nerves go away.”

Hernandez also explained that she was glad that her friends from the music department received scholarships as her self also.

One of the other performers that performed his heavy metal piece for the first time on the electric guitar in the Scott Henderson concert was Kris Raman and said” I been playing since November getting ready” he also added that he will be performing more often in concerts.  

Vocal Major Jose Luis Maldonado jr. was also one of performers that performed a Russian piece called Tchaikovsky and other from Kurt Weill.

Maldonado jr. explained that since February he been getting ready for this concert after transferring to Cerritos from from Rio Hondo.

“Its my first official school year at Cerritos College” said Maldonado and also added ” I was not nervous my motto is to I have to know my song to week before the performance and I feed of the audience I love the audience.”

He explained that in the future he wants to transfer at a music conservatory like Manhattan school music or Juilliard even Indiana school University and become an opera singer.
