Designing the future

After taking one year off, the Cerritos College Graphic Design Club is back and ready to make an impact and create a community to help anyone interested in graphic designing.

Art and graphic design students joined together and made the club official by choosing their officers on Tuesday, Feb 4.

After choosing their officers they went straight to business and brainstormed ideas to make the Graphic Design Club noticeable on campus. Which will be producing flyers, buttons, t-shirts and working with the art society.

Graphic Design major and president, Hope Garcia, is excited and looking forward to showcase the club’s talent.

“Hopefully we create new ideas working with the art society (and) art club. Hopefully having a chance to work with some of the other clubs maybe designing their designs or their logos for their clubs. We want to put a mark on Cerritos College, we wanna show that graphic design is not just for us when we leave this school we wanna show that we too can create something,” she said.

Garcia, explains the purpose of the club and what it can do for other students interested in graphic design.

“To create a comradery between all the graphic design majors to get people to work together to see a different outlook on illustration, photoshop, design. Giving someone a place to go to work together and create new ideas,” she said.

Vice president, Allan Benitez explained the reason he joined the club, “I wanna see network and since iv’e been doing this for four semesters. So, I want more experience and see how the designing goes from there.”

He also brought up the reason why he took the position as vice president. “I wanna see this club achieve its goals and succeed with all the projects we have to do,” he said.

The club is getting ready to start its fundraisers and share its designs with everyone on campus.

First time joining a club on campus is graphic design major, Victoria Luna, who is enthusiastic about it and wants people know that anyone is welcomed and it’s time for graphic designers to be recognized.

“We have really great people here as graphic design students we do a lot here and we don’t get noticed and I haven’t seen a club for this. We have an opportunity to show the school what we are made of here and that it’s not just letters or it’s not just print we do. I mean you can do so much with graphics design and we want to just open up that world to everybody and let them know what its about,” Luna said.

The Graphic Design Club is open to anyone with or without an art background. Also, if anyone is interested to learn about graphic designing.

The club meets every first and third Tuesday of every month in the Fine Arts Building, Room-61 at 11 a.m.
