Lonley Island’s craft a comedy masterpiece

Chances are, you’ve already heard a good portion of the material on The Lonely Island’s debut album, “Incredibad.”

This trio of native Californians are the creative force behind the digital shorts on Saturday Night Live.

Andy Samberg is a cast member. Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone are writers.

For the last two years, they have been debuting their songs one by one in the form of music videos, often times enlisting help from their famous friends or whoever happened to be hosting that week.

Their shorts, tailor-made for the web, garnered millions of hits spreading like wildfire across the Internet.

Each song finds this merry band of pranksters parodying different genres in extremely irreverent, and often times very disgusting, ways.

Justin Timberlake guests on a hilarious parody of early 90’s R&B love songs.

Other guests include T-Pain, Julian Casablancas, Natalie Portman and Norah Jones, among others.

Aside from the SNL hits, the guys present a handful of new tunes, many of which seem destined to be immortalized as digital shorts in upcoming episodes.

The CD also includes a bonus disc with all of the music videos created thus far on it.

“Incredibad” redefines what a comedy record can be; the punch-lines are plentiful and laugh-out-loud funny, and musically every single track is executed in a way that would indicate that the Lonely Island guys are paying tribute to the music they love while having a few yuks.

Overall, it stands out as a true labor of love, the kind of thing that only a few close friends (with twisted senses of humor) would be able to create together.
