Polychromatic Mojo brings together five contemporary artists experimenting with the evocative power of color to fuel their extremely individualized approaches to abstract painting. Going beyond just having a unique style, these particular artists play with color to enunciate their own personal swagger, strut, or thump. In traditional color theory, a polychromatic relationship is defined as using more than two colors in juxtaposition such that the pure visual force inherent to each color interact, creating a new perceptual experience in the process. The term mojo, however, is far less formal and rigid, suggesting an ambiguous magical quality that exists within all living things; the greater the mojo, the more funky the persona. The basic formal elements of line, shape, color, and texture are, for these five artists, functional conduits to evoke a variety of emotions and visual sensations reflective of the human condition. Whether presented via the alchemy of poured paint or in the nuanced colors of meticulously constructed surfaces, both in two and three dimensions, the work of these artists continues to exude spirit, funk, and, most importantly, their own special kind of mojo.
