Track teams off to strong start

The Cerritos College track and field teams won seven events in the South Coast Conference Relays pre-meet Friday.

The meet, originally scheduled to take place at Long Beach City College, was moved to Cerritos.

Derick Anderson placed second in the long jump with a mark of 22′ 9″.

Anderson took first place in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 47′ 10″. Michael Sneed placed fifth as he jumped 45′ 5″.

Antonio Hyman placed fourth in the 300-meters with a time of 40 minutes and 23 seconds.

In the women’s long jump, Vallas Veronica jumped 29′ 10″ and placed seventh, Leau Ileen jumped 31′ 6″ and placed sixth and Shevall Bennett jumped 27′ 10 1/4″ and placed ninth.

In pole vault Lily Perez placed seventh.

Women’s 100 hurdlers Tak Beal placed second with a time of 15:76.,Danell Harper placed sixth with a time of 20:28, and Tala Cater placed fifth at 18:91.

Andrew Phillips placed seventh in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14:07.71 seconds.

Perez threw the javelin 102 feet and eight inches to win the event.

Liz Cartiel threw the javelin 64′ 5″ and Shannel Prio 61′ 8″.

Cerritos was the only team entered in the Women’s 4×200. The time was 1:52.08.

Beth Janikowski placed fifth in the high jump with a mark of 31′ 10″.

The men’s 4×200 relay was won by the Falcons’ “A” team at 1:30.79. The Falcons’ “B” team placed second at 1:31.88.

Cerritos also placed first and second in the men’s 4×100 relay. The Falcons’ “A” team won the event with a time of 42 seconds. Their “B” team placed second at 42.3. Their “C” team finished with a time of 44.03.

In the women’s 4×100, the Falcons’ “B” team finished first with a time of 50.96, and the Falcons’ “A” team placed second at 58.91.

Andrew Phillips threw the discus for 118 feet and six inches and finished fifth.

Women’s discus thrower Charell Bennett placed seventh when she threw for 96 feet and three inches. Sitilai Fransella threw for 96 feet and placed eighth.

Brian Crosser ran the men’s 500-meters in 19:34.52.

In the women’s 4×800 the Falcons placed second with a time of 11:07.10.

In the men’s 4×800 the Falcons placed fifth at 8:89.

Cerritos won the women’s 4×200 at 1:52.08.

In the women’s 4×400 the Falcons finished at 3:29:33 for fifth place.

The Falcons’ “B” team placed second in the men’s 4×400 at 3:28.91.

Coach Jeff Clingan said it was an outstanding performance in the team’s first meet. “We came out injury free.

“Ileen Leau made an outstanding mark that put her in top of the South Coast Conference. Lilly Perez im-proved in javelin. All the coaches are pleased with the team’s performance.”

Leau said, “We are going to have a good season.”

Runner Karen Espinoza said that the team is strong. “I love this team.

“We are going to rock.”
