Falcons’ pitcher Joseph Lakey struck out six batters and gave up only four hits in nine innings as the Cerritos baseball team improved its record to 7-6 with a 1-0 win over Pasadena Saturday at Kincaid Field.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the eighth when Bryan Baker of Cerritos drove in teammate Thomas Bruce.

Lakey said, “I just kept the them (Pasadena) down and let the defense do their job. The defense came to play.”

“We came through when we needed to come through, meaning we scored when we needed to score.”

Coach Ken Gaylord said, “We’ve got a long way before we are fundmentally sound.”

Bruce said, “We came out slow. I have no clue of why we came out slow.

“We had chances to score, but we swung at bad pitches.”

“I think our defense is starting to come together. We’re starting to gain confidence.”

Rightfielder Doyle Washington said, “Joseph Lakey threw well. He made pitches during crunch time.”

Designated hitter Carl Johnson said, “We should have had more runs and more hits. The reason for not having more hits and more runs is lack of contact.”

Leftfielder Joseph Ammirato said, “We need to hit better or put the ball in play.”

“One of the reasons for not hitting better or not putting the ball into play, is because we swing at bad pitches.”

Update

The Falcons used 14 hits and 11 walks to defeat Mt. San Antonio, 20-7, Friday in a game rescheduled due to rain.

Monday’s game at L.A. Harbor was rained out and rescheduled for Wednesday.

Tuesday’s home game against El Camino was also rained out and will be rescheduled.
