Falcons split meet in pool

The Cerritos College men’s and women’s swimming teams won 15 events over El Camino College Friday in the Falcons’ pool.

The Falcon men defeated the Warriors, 72-48 while the women lost, 64-63.

Both of Cerritos’ teams have a record of 2-2.

The men of Cerritos won the 200 yards medley with a time of 1:57.20.

Dan Garcia of the Falcons won the men’s 100 yards breaststroke with time of 1:04.7, and the men’s 100 yards butterfly with a time of 55:31.

Garcia said that the men did well. “We had strong times. It was a good win in our conference.”

He also said that the men just need to work hard in practice and they should make it into one of the state relays.

Tim Poppin won the men’s 53 yards freestyle for Cerritos with a time of 23:62. He also won the men’s 100 yards freestyle with a time of 44:90.

The Falcons’ Charlie Eldridge won the men’s 200 yards backstroke with a time of 2:31.23.

The Cerritos men’s relay team of Garcia, Poppin, Jose Pacheco and Ricardo Goncalves won the 400 yards freestyle.

The women of Cerritos won the 200 yards medley with a time of two hours 10 minutes and 24 seconds.

Laura Luevano of the Falcons won the women’s 200 yards freestyle.

She also won the women’s 500 yards freestyle with a time of 5:42.66, and the 100 yards butterfly with a time of 1:05.28.

Katrina Kimble won the women’s 100 yards backstroke for the Falcons, as well as the women’s 50 yards butterfly with a time of 29.14.

The Falcons’ relay team of Stephanie Zamora, Jessica Meili, Tara Tapparo and Meagan Robles won the women’s 400 yards freestyle relay.

Robles said that the team did well. “We have improved since our first meet. We need to be more devoted to practice.”

The Warriors won 11 events, including the diving event.

On the men’s side, El Camino won the 200, 500 and 1,000 yards freestyle, as well as the 200 yards medley and the 200 yards beaststoke.

The Warrior women won the 50, 100 and 1,000 yards freestyle, and the 100 yards beaststoke and the 100 yards medley.

Cerritos women’s swimming team coach Don Weyrick said that the women did well. “Once we get Jill Strickland back from injury we will have a good chance to win the conference”

Cerritos men’s swimming coach Hal Simonek that the men did an outstanding job. “We are close to making the state standards in the 200 yards medley and the 400 yards freestyle relay.

He said that the team needs to keep working on conditioning.
