Opinion: America’s need to deal with compacency

The hardest part of any disaster is trying to pick up the shattered parts of devastated lives. The most difficult step is always the first one taken towards recovery.

When America catches its collective breath, when we have had a chance to settle our hearts and to calm our minds we will be able to put Tuesday’s events into their proper perspective.

When America is able to deal with this tragedy, the events of Tuesday will be seen as the end of American complacency.

For too long, America has been seen as a “paper tiger” by the rest of the world. We are unwilling to commit ourselves to any permanent courses of action.

Eleven years ago we pursued Sadam Hussein all the way back to Baghdad, and then refused to finish the job.

Our so-called “war on drugs,” has consumed billions of dollars and yet a kilo of cocaine is cheaper on the streets now than it was a decade ago.

Philandering politicians diddle their interns and then lie in the public’s faces about it.

Americans have always complained about the system, yet they never seem to do anything about it…

All this is about to change.

Never again will people say “it isn’t my problem” or pretend events occurring on the other side of the planet are not really happening.

The American public is going to wake up to the problems of the rest of the world. We are going to see that we need to treat the whole world as one community, where the problems affecting one person affect all people.

America will be a more proactive place from now on.

Already American military forces around the world are gearing up and getting ready to stomp somebody into the ground.

Political leaders are finally speaking with one voice and are united in a cause.

Americans across the nation are gathering and calling for action like never before.

People will never again complain about having to stand in long lines in front of metal detectors.

This is a slap in the face that will forever wake us up to the realities of the modern world.

When people in other countries hate us enough to send their sons on suicide missions against us, a message is being sent that can no longer be ignored.
