The on-campus Student Center hasn’t been, “ready for some football,” during the past two Mondays. And the reasons for that are pretty solid and non-debatable.
The NFL game between the Minnesota Vikings and Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 17, was cancelled by the league in the wake of the terrorists acts six days prior.
And last Monday’s game between the Washington Redskins and Green Bay Packers was not shown in the Student Center because of a previously planned school administration function.
All systems are go, however, for next Monday’s NFL game between the San Francisco 49ers and the New York Jets. The game, as was the case on Sept. 10, is expected to be shown live in the Student Center.
The Student Center is attempting to bring students closer together via sports. The atmosphere during the Giants-Broncos was like that of a non-crowded sports bar, minus the alcoholic beverages.
An estimated 20 people stopped by for the initial Giants-Broncos game..
Student Center manager Melissa Swank said that the ASCC is also planning to show pay-per-view movies, DVD movies, basketball games, boxing, and baseball playoff and World Series games as well as football.
“As long as there are not any concerts or events showing (on campus) during that time, we plan on showing (the) students concerts and other events,” Swank said.
Swank also added that the Center plans to host improv comedy and stand up comedy nights.
According to Swank, this is the first year that the ASCC is hosting events.
“We are still figuring out what kind of events the students are interested in., Swank said.
