The Falcons’ volleyball team lost to Mount San Antonio College three games to none Wednesday at Cerritos.

Falcons’ setter Jennifer Bullock said, “We could have played better. We started out playing nervous and continued to play nervous.”

In the first game middle blocker/offense hitter Tiffany Amete tied the score at 1-1 on a kill.

Amete and Setter Jennifer Bullock combined to give the Falcons (1-1) an 8-7 lead on a double block.

Right setter Pearl Arvizu cut the Mt. SAC lead to 18-15 on a serve.

But Mt. SAC held on to win, 30-26.

In the second game, Cerritos middle blocker Vanessa Cid and offense hitter Jessica Baez combined on a double block to make the score 9-6, Mt. SAC. Arvizu tied the score at 15 with a serve.

The Falcons ended up losing game two, 30-22.

In the third game Bullock cut the Mounties’ lead to 9-7 on a kill.

Middle blocker/offense hitter Amete gave the Falcons a 15-14 led on a kill.

Offense hitter Jessica Baez made the score 26-24 on a kill.

But the Mounties came back to win the third game, 31-29, sealing the match.

Falcon Crisol Mendoza, right setter/defense specialist, said that the team is young and that the players need to put all of their playing experiences together as a team. “This game was a wake-up call for us. We will do better at the San Diego Mesa Tournament.”

Cerritos will play Saturday at the San Diego Mesa Tournament in San Diego.

Bullock said, “I think we are going to surprise a lot of people at the San Diego Mesa Tournament.”

She said that the team knows what it has to do in order to win at the tournament. “We need to start playing like a team.”

Arvizu said that the team has great talent, and they just need to play as a team. “We need to show our skills. Hopefully the talk that the coach gave us will motivate us to play hard.

“The way we play at the San Diego Mesa Tournament is the way we are going to play all season. We have no other choice but to play hard from here on out.”
