Volleyball team tames, sweeps Huskies

The Falcons’ volleyball team blew out the Huskies of East Los Angeles College in volleyball three games to none Wednesday at Cerritos.

In the first game, middle blocker Tiffany Amete made the score 2-1 on a kill, then middle blocker Vanessa Cidused a kill to give the Falcons a 9-2 lead.

Offense hitter Arelyn Gallardo increased the lead to 15-7 on a serve, and Jessica Baez gave the Falcons a 20-9 led on a kill on the way to a 30-13 Cerritos win.

In the second game, Cid made the score 5-2 on a kill.

Then she made a kill that made the score 10-3.

Baez made the score 17-3 on a dig, and Right Setter Pearl Arvizu gave the Falcons a 26-4 lead on a kill, as the Falcons beat the Huskies 30-5.

In the third game, setter Jennifer Bullock gave the Falcons a 3-0 led on a serve.

The Falcons made the score 12-7 on Arvizu’s serve.

Setter Berlin Mika made the score 24-10 on a serve, as the Falcons whipped the Huskies 30-15.

The Falcons will play Friday at Long Beach City College.

Falcon coach Teresa Ortega said that the team did well. “We need to work on ball control for our next game against Long Beach.

“If the team can work as a team, we can beat the Vikings.”

Amete said,”The Huskies style of playing slow caused us to play to their level. The game against the Vikings will be good. That game will make us play harder and smarter.”

Arvizu said that team played a lot better considering that the Huskies are not that strong. “We have to play tough against the Vikings. If we play with the motivation to win, we beat the Vikings.”
