The Cerritos College wrestling team finished second in what Falcons’ head coach Greg Gascon called “the toughest tournament of the year” Saturday at West Valley College.
Josh Johnson (141 pounds) and Steve Garcia (149 pounds) placed first while Andy Tufnell (174 pounds) finished second. Anthony Rodriguez (125 pounds) and Gabe Barragan (157 pounds) finished third.
Cerritos was in first place at the start of the finals but fell to second place when Tufnell lost his match against Moorpark in overtime.
“It was a tough break,” said Gascon. “His win would’ve won the tournament.
“I’m very proud of the guys, they worked hard for what they got.”
Wednesday the team will travel to San Bernardino Valley for a South Coast Conference match, and then will compete in the South Duals Saturday at Moorpark College.
