Football team slams El Camino, 41-31

Missing its chance of having a perfect season, the Falcon football team came back to whip the Warriors of El Camino College, 41-31, Saturday at Cerritos.

The Falcons will play at Mount San Antonio Saturday at 1pm.

In the first quarter Fausto Gonzales scored a touchdown on a 16-yard pass from Mike Harrison to give the Falcons a 7-0 lead.

Cerritos led, 21-17 at halftime, with running backs Josh Herrera of Cerritos and Alvin Marshall of El Camino scoring two touchdowns each.

In the third quarter, Marshall, who rushed for 154 yards in the game, scored his third touchdown to give the Warriors their first lead, 24-21.

The Falcons regined the lead on touchdowns by Jermaine Whiten and Chris Chatman, who caught a pass from Harrison for an 86-yard touchdown to make the score 34-24.

In the fourth quarter, the Falcons slammed the door shut on the Warriors when linebacker Philip Perry picked off Ryan Gilbert’s and returned it 67 yards for a touchdown and a 41-24 lead.

Gilbert came back with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Deshon Harris to make the final score 41-31.

Falcon defensive back Cornell Norman said, “We put out our hearts. We are prepared to play Mt. SAC.

“As long as do not make mistakes we will win.”

Falcon Coach Frank Mazzotta said that the team had a tough time stopping the run and made some adjustments at halftime.

“The defense was good in the second half. They made some great stops.

“Our upcoming games to do not get any easier. We need to stop making mistakes.”

Falcon wide receiver Randy Raphiel said that the team played well. “We played as a team.”

As for the Mt. SAC game, he said, “Each game is a test for us. We need to execute plays on both sides of the ball.”
