Escorcia’s goal lifts Falcons

Jessica Escorcia and Elba Rodriguez scored goals to lead the Cerritos women’s soccer team to a 2-1 win over East L.A. College Tuesday on the Falcons’ field.

Trailing 1-0, Rodriguez scored on a corner kick. to tie the game at the half.

Escorcia scored the winning goal in the second half on a free kick.

Falcons’ assistant coach Lorena Nunez said, “I knew since the beginning that we were going to win, even though we were one player short in the first half.

“We gave it all we had and the results explain it all.”

The next game for the Falcons (5-9, 4-7 in South Coast Conference) is Tuesday at home against Mt. San Antonio at 3 p.m.

Cortes shuts out LACC

It was a shut out for goal keeper Carmen Cortes as the women’s soccer team visited L.A. City College Tuesday and won, 2-0.

It was the Falcons’ second win in as many games over L.A. City this season.

Cortes said, “We dominated the whole game.

“Escorcia deserves most of the credit. She assisted the two goals for us, and saved us from getting scored on.”

Forward Mauriel Chaidez, who scored both goals for Cerritos, said, “The game could have been better.

“It was really intense, but good overall.”

Friday the Falcons were shut out by Long Beach, 10-0.

Defender Lupe Chavez said, “Playing against the Vikings was fun overall. “Considering that they are ranked third in the nation, we fought until the end.”
