It’s time to take those dingy boots out the closet.The 2002 Hoe Down Days begin next week.Hoe Down Days is the yearly spring event sponsored by the Associated Students of Cerritos College (ASCC). It is comprised of three days filled with different activities with a western twist. “Think of it as a western carnival,” said Sarah Mayorga, ASCC Vice President. Hoe Down Days begins on Tuesday with Western Booth Day. Beginning at 10 a.m. different clubs will erect booths in Falcon Square. “This is a huge fundraising event for all clubs. The spaces usually go out within a couple hours,” said Nassarin Bonyadloo, ASCC President.Also highlighting Tuesday’s events is the Dunk Your Favorite Cop Booth sponsored by the ASCC. Students will pay to dunk their favorite campus police officer or parking officials. “All the proceeds go to scholarship awareness,” Bonyadloo said. At 6 p.m. food and entertainment will be provided for afternoon students in the Social Science Patio. It will be the only activity held at night.The hot stuff begins on Wednesday with a chili cookout that begins at 10:30 a.m.Here different clubs and staff compete for the best Chili. “Culinary Arts have won for the past two years,” Bonyadloo said. Students also have the opportunity to taste some of the award winning chili after the competition. The event students look forward to the most is the Mr. Cerritos Contest. ” I can’t wait to see the guys,” Evelyn De La Torre, Business Major, said. Cerritos College President Jane Harmon and Bonyadloo will host the event. Hoe Down Days finishes its week of western fun on Thursday. A concert will be held in the Student Center at 11 a.m.
