Puente

The Puente Club is a mentoring program that advises Latino youth from Cerritos College, who come from low-income households, on achieving a successful journey into four-year universities. Puente students help each other out by providing study groups, answering questions on financial aid and EOPS, and coaching each other on transferring.

Puente president Joseph Sanchez leads the club in conducting fundraisers so that members can attend the annual Puente Convention, which is held at various California universities.

This convention serves as a way for Puente members from different community colleges and high schools throughout the state to learn what is needed to successfully complete a college career.

Puente students work with their own personal counselor, Armando Soto, who helps the students make good decisions in planning their college careers. Members work together and one-on-one with Soto, an advantage for club members.

Because Puente is a rather new club to Cerritos, it wants to attract new members to join. One of the ways it does so is by holding events such a bowling nights. They club is also active at Cerritos in schools elections, homecoming and food drives.

Students who want to join the club are considered active members after they have attended three consecutive meetings. The club meets every Tuesday from 11-12:30 in Room LC-217.
