The Cerritos College volleyball team came up short in their season opener, as they dropped a 21-30, 28-30, 23-30 match to Los Angeles Pierce.
This week, the Falcons (0-1) will travel to College of the Canyons on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. match before they enter the Santa Ana Tournament on Saturday.
Leading the way for the Falcons in the loss was freshman middle blocker Sindy Mendez (Mexico), who recorded 12 kills with just one error. She also led the team with three service aces and three blocks on the night.
Cerritos had a chance to post a win in the second game, which would have changed the tempo of the entire match. But LA Pierce was able to come away with the close win and went on to capture the third game for the sweep.
Sophomore outside hitter Tiffany Tolentino added eight kills and five digs, with sophomore middle blocker Vanessa Cid finishing with six kills and four digs.
