Woman’s soccer gears up for new season

Debbie Jensen, the Cerritos Women’s Soccer coach is eager to talk about the early season and future of the team. Mostly because the team is practicing for its next match on Friday against Mt. San Jacinto.

With four games crossed out of the list, Coach Jensen seeks many goals but two specific goals are necessary in order to make the playoffs. “One of our goals is to stay focused and on track of each game”, said Jensen.

The team looks focused and determined to win this season. Their main goal is to make it to the playoffs since last year was their first time making the post-season. They did not get too far last year, however this time they have the experience and what it takes to win in the post-season, according to Jensen.

The season is young and the team has gotten their feet wet. It took the team three games to get accustomed and familiar to their surroundings.

Liz Nuñez, their midfielder was a key defender in game three and she’s been improving her defense.

However, forward Grisell Ramirez, their best player and a sophomore, scored a dazzling four goals in one game. The Falcons went on to win San Diego City with a dominating score of 5 – 0.

Like all teams in any sport the Falcons face injury. Their full starting line-up lacks three players that have injuries, which could be extremely vital in facing LBCC the number one team in the nation.

With high-quality teams like LBCC, Pasadena and El Camino, they are going to have work hard because will be a tough conference.

The Women’s Soccer Team will get to show their stuff on Friday when they face Mt. San Jacinto at 4 p.m. here at Cerritos.
