“A Tribute Worth Remembering”

Many of us live our lives in search of a purpose. Many of us realize our purpose at an early age and others till the second of our last breath. We, as humans have tried to accomplish feats that would make us legends, heroes, individuals that are remembered for centuries to come. Many humans have come and gone before us, all with the purpose to live and do something profound. October 26, 2004 was a day that Cerritos College could look back and “Respect,” one of the greatest student led events in this campus history. The event that took place on this date was more than just an event. It was a TRIBUTE, a tribute to all of our service members across the globe that have died for freedom, freedom that you and me both appreciate and are thankful for. Our Tribute was in memory for all of the 1104 soldiers that have died in the War in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our Tribute was to thank them for there sacrifice and determination to be strong. There determination to try to live another day. There determination to fight “for us all.” WE wanted everyone to know that we couldn’t be any prouder of our troops. We know that a thousand words could never amount to all of the “Love” we have for our troops. Even though a few students were honored with the responsibility to call out the names of our fallen heroes, the rest of us kept silent and outlined away our gratitude for all of the troops that were lost in the last 19 months. They will always be remembered!!!!!!! This past Tuesday was a day that we as Cerritos College Students sent a “Powerful” message to all of our fellow peers and instructors. Our message was, “We support our troops 100% and we are so, so, thankful for there sacrifice and willingness to die for our country.” For the first time in the 3 semesters that I’ve been attending Cerritos College, I have ever seen so many students come together as they did for this powerful and respectful occasion. I thank every one of you who was out there in support of our troops. I’m so honored to be part of the organization that took its time to organize this great and memorable day. Every one of us should be proud. Proud to have participated in something that would always be remembered and cherished in the hearts of all that walked by Falcon Square that day. I thank every one of you. I especially want to thank my officers and Advisor for there support and help in making this historical event possible. I just hope that this is a start of a movement. A movement that would help us be more politically and socially active. A movement that would help us realize our purpose. Our purpose to respect and honor those that have given there lives for something they believed in. Something we believe in. Something that’s, “Worth Remembering.”
