Baseball: Falcons finish week victoriously

The Cerritos College baseball team had back-to-back wins against East Los Angeles College and Los Angeles City College.

They defeated ELAC, 4-1 last Tuesday at Kincaid Field and L.A. City, 11-8 last Thursday.

The wins will keep the Falcons within striking distance of South Coast Conference division leader Long Beach City College.

The Falcons now have an overall record of 25-13 and a conference record of 14-5. This Thursday, they will travel to play East Los Angeles College at 2:30 p.m.

In the game against L.A. City, the Falcons scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning and in the process came back from a 8-7 deficit.

Outfielder Jake Moore started the rally with a walk to first and moved to second with a hit from Jose Serrano. Afterwards infielder Dan Luyben hit a single to tie the game at eight. First baseman Ryan Montgomery scored the last two runs of the inning to give the Falcons the win.

Head Coach Ken Gaylord said, “That game against Los Angeles City College really took years off my life. It was a really exciting game. Our pitching has been struggling these past couple of games. We have been leaning on (the pitchers) since the start of the season to carry us.

Hopefully with the comeback victory our offense could have gotten a shot of adrenaline and taken some pressure off our pitchers.”
