Women’s track team competes at Home Depot Center

The Cerritos College women’s track and field team competed in the Pacific Coast Invitational at The Home Depot Center on Friday and had one relay team come in first place, while the team also had another place first in an individual event.

Of the 11 events that were held, Cerritos competed in eight of them.

It served as a final tune-up, as the team will now host the South Coast Conference Prelims, which will be held on Saturday, with the first event slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. In the 1600-meter relay race, the team of freshman Marie Leroux (Fountain Valley HS), sophomore Amanda Rosencrantz (Kennedy HS), freshman Khandie Brooks (Dorsey HS) and freshman Angela Negrete (Western HS) beat the other four teams by posting a time of 3:59.82.

As for sophomore jumper Portia Ford (Long Beach Poly HS), she won the triple jump with a leap of 34′ 1 1/4″, while sophomore teammate Le’Sauna Johnson (Long Beach Poly HS) was right behind in second place with a jump of 33′ 3 1/4″.

In addition, Ford also competed in the long jump and placed fourth with a distance of 16′ 3″. Rosencrantz and Negrete also ran the 800 meters and did very well, as Rosencrantz placed second in a time of 2:21.63, while Negrete was a close third with a time of 2:23.56.

In the 100-meter low hurdles, freshman Christina Griffis (Kennedy HS) placed fifth with a time of 16.26, while she came in fourth place in the 400-meter hurdles with a clocking of 1:16.44. As for the 400-meter relay team, the quartet of Ford, Leroux, Brooks and Rosencrantz came in third place and finished with a time of 50.04.
