Falcon volleyball player signs with four-year school

After earning 1st Team All-South Coast Conference and finishing second on the team in kills and digs, Cerritos College volleyball player Terri Del Conte has signed a letter of intent to continue her education and playing career at Missouri State University.

Del Conte is the first of the Falcon sophomores to sign with a university. “Being able to sign with a Division I program was my goal from the very beginning,” said Del Conte, who played one season for the Falcons after playing her freshman season at Long Beach City College and earned 1st Team All-SCC honors.

“They are a very good team and they just finished their best season in school history by advancing to the second round of the NCAA Championships for the first time ever. I’m very excited to be going out there and being a part of the experience.” While with Cerritos this past season, Del Conte appeared in 78 games and finished second on the team with 263 kills, while she was second on the team with 324 digs.

She was primarily an outside hitter for the Falcons, who tied for second place in the conference this past year, but will go to Missouri State as a libero.

In addition, Del Conte used her powerful jump serve to lead the team with 43 service aces and was talented enough to add 31 blocks. The Bears, who finished 27-9 this past season, are members of the Missouri Valley Conference and advanced to the championship of their tournament before losing to Northern Iowa University.

They opened the NCAA Tournament by defeating the University of Arkansas in four games before getting swept by the University of Oklahoma to end their season. “When I went on my recruiting trip there, everyone was so welcoming and I connected with everyone I met,” added Del Conte, who will be a business major. “There is so much fan support and they have crowds of around 3,500 which is something I’m really excited to experience.

They have a brand new facility and everybody there is so committed to the athletic programs. It’s going to be new for me to travel so far away from home, but I am really looking forward to going there and doing my best.”
