More than 900 people cheered on while watching the Cerritos College’s women soccer team play in an international friendly game against the Mexican women under-20 national team April 3.

The game was played on the new soccer field, located east of the softball field and south of the baseball field which had enough space for fans to gather.

The score ended at 5-2; 3-0 in the first half and 2-2 in the second half, which left the Mexican national team victors.

Lily Leos and Vanessa Monreal were the two Falcons that scored.

This was one game of many that the Mexican National Team will be playing this month said Oscar Zerecero, team coordinator and counselor.

Ruben Gonzalez, Cerritos head coach, invited Andrea Rosebaugh, coach of the national team, for a first game here in Cerritos College against its team.

“I was able to arrange the game. Rodebaugh and I have talked about it for a while, we are good friends,” Gonzalez said.

The game was very electrifying, the people cheered on both sides, for Cerritos and Mexico.

There was also a Mexican and American flag on the west side of the field.

Several fans of the Mexican National Team where present to cheer on their favorite players such as Lillyana Godoy, No.9, and Stefany Mayor Gutierrez , No. 11.

“We’re going to Tijuana April, 4, then Mexicali for the selections of Baja California,” Zerecero said. “Then we’ll be back to go to Alabama.”

He went on to say that these games were as a preparation for the Under-20 Women’s World Cup.

After the game was over, Rosebaugh gave thanks to Gonzalez for the invitation.

“I [also] thank the support of the people.”

Gutierrez, architect major, was surrounded by fans and had this to say:

“Well, I am content with coming, this place is very pretty. The team is also strong. We won but with effort.”

Gabby Aguilar, dental hygienist major, was not surprised that the national team won them.

“They are the better team, but next time (the Falcons) will be ready.”

At the end of the game Aguilar and her teammates sang “Happy Birthday” to Rosy Anaya.
