PeopleSoft, MyCerritos get upgraded

MyCerritos was taken offline April 2-7 to upgrade PeopleSoft to version 9.0.

PeopleSoft, software provider of student administration, human resource and Financial management systems, is an acquired product from Oracle, the company that upgrades the software.

The original version (8.0) will reach its end-of-life in Aug. 2008 and the new upgrade will have updates by the end of December 2011 and have an extended support until mid 2014.

The stated end-of-life date means that Oracle will no long provide tax, legal and regulatory updates to that version.

Without these updates Cerritos College could not provide financial aid.

The upgrades will make the MyCerritos.edu simpler for students since it will concentrate several links.

The biggest change to the Cerritos College site will be the addition “One Stop,” the Student Center.

The Student Center will include computers which will give students the ability to:

  • search for classes,
  • see their holds or to-do lists,
  • view financials account information,
  • Make payments,
  • view financial aid information, all in one webpage.

There are a lot of names, numbers, information, grades and networks that need to be transferred from the older version to the new, which may take the upgrading process a few days to complete.

Lee Krichmar, director of information and technology, said the upgrades are thanks to the support of the Information Technology Department.

“We have a contract with Oracle to use the PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Human Resources and Portal software.” Krichmar said.

If there are no problems during the software upgrade then the system might be accessible as early as Friday.

Training will be available to all students in the Academic Support Center LC 166 and detailed web based documentation will too be provided.

Michelle Rodriguez, program assistant II, will be in the center and will show staff and students about the new features.

“We are excited for students to learn and use the changes that are coming with the PeopleSoft upgrade,” she said.
