Spreading the word of God

Three men stood in the amphitheatre trying to spread the word of God on Wednesday.

They had a board displayed with a picture of Albert Einstein.

“People say they don’t believe in God, we say they failed the intelligence test,” said Ray Comfort, co-host (alongside Kirk Cameron) of the religious show, Way of the Master.

However, it didn’t appear to be coming across to students that were hanging out at the Hill.

Mark Spence, dean of Cameron and Comfort’s School of Biblical Evangelism, told students that “We cannot know what truth is outside God.”

Spence was challenged by David Gallareo, chemistry major, with almost every statement he made.

Gallareo said he didn’t necessarily want people to not believe in religion.

“I wanted people to doubt him and think he’s a moron,” Gallareo said. “I want to destroy people’s beliefs so they know what to believe.”

None of the heckling from students stopped these people from continuing their presentation.

Stewart Scott, one of these three, said things like, “Jesus Christ died for your sins so (salvation) would be available to you.”

Despite anything they would say, students weren’t feeling their salvation.

“I don’t think a lot of people wanted to hear it,” said John Arenas, biochemisty major.

Archie Posada, music major, said, “If people want to hear about God, they’ll go to church or read the Bible.”

Posada understood where they were coming from though.

“It’s a good thing (they’re) doing, trying to save us,” he said. “But I think (they’re) going about it the wrong way.”
