Three weeks into each semester at 11am aromas of various foods seep into the Student Center from Café Cerritos.  Once the sliding doors open students line up to try the weeks featured food.

Beginning at 8am Monday though Thursday about 50 students of the Culinary Arts program begin preparing the food for Cerritos Café.

The students in this class are working towards Chef’s Training Certificate of Achievement and/or their AA  Degree.

There are between 12 and 20 different choices of food each week.  The menu changes at the beginning of each week.

Mr. Pierini, a Culinary Arts instructor states “This is a scratch kitchen, meaning that we make everything from scratch from the bread to the mayo.”

The kitchen staff also doesn’t use recipes but works on, “taste only,” states Pierini.

The café remains open until 1pm.  The price of the food ranges from five to seven dollars per meal.

Adam Llamas, a Culinary Arts student said “The Café is great, but it would be better if more people came.”

By coming to the café students are supporting their fellow students achieve while they are enjoying a variety of food.
