Cupcakes and goody bags were sold on campus to collect money that will be
donated to CARE, a humanitarian organization that helps poor families around the globe
to have more resources to send their kids to school, combat spread of HIV and build a
better life for themselves.

“We care about people who are less fortunate in the world,” said Timothy Chen,
vice president of the club.

In order to raise awareness of poverty in the economy, the students also plan to have seminars that inform people about the problem.

George Gonzalez, one of the club’s member said that it was Ecomomic Professor Solomon Namala’s class that inspired him to support this cause.

According to Gonzalez, the fundraising was also a test run to analyze what brings
more profit. This information, will be used for future events that the club promotes to
provide scholarships.

Last semester, the Dream Scholarship for AB540 students (immigrants), was the
target group selected to get such scholarships.

The event was from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Customers were able to help in this cause with $0.50 per cupcake and $1 per goody bag.

The cupcakes were made by the president of the club, Jesus Olivera, while the cookies were baked by the vice president himself.
