Student elections get high turnout

Many students surrounded all three different poll stations on April 22 and 23 to vote for the new student trustee, president and vice president.

Some students were turned away for not having an identification card present or not having it up to date.

“Once we turned them away they would be respectful about the situation, and they would actually come right back to vote with their identification cards,” said voting poll clerk Joan Thiel.

Everyone that voted had to sign in on a numbered sheet that the clerks were in charge of.

By the end of the first day, two out of three stations were working on their third sheet.

“Students are actually involved this year,” Joan Thiel added.

“Everyone has been so corporative, there have been no problems which is wonderful,” stated Betty Walczak voting poll clerk.

As students approached the poll booths they were either greeted by the candidate’s assistants or no one at all.

Some candidates gave out fliers to tag onto your book bags others passed out all sorts of candy.

Voting polls closed at 8 p.m. on April 23, votes were tallied and announced on April 24.
