Construction continues as the school goes over a mass overhaul.

After the General Obligation Bond passed as of March 2, 2004, there looks to be plenty of construction for years to come.

According to program director Jerry Jones of Bovis Lend Lease, if all funds are in place, the project’s finish date could be as early as 2015.

Measure CC was a local facilities bond measure to provide $210 million for necessary upgrades for Cerritos College.

According to Cerritos College’s Web site, these funds will help to renovate old buildings and build new facilities to relieve overcrowding and meet demands of projected growth in student enrollment.

Bovis said, “For us to help stretch the dollar of the G.O. Bond we are getting government funding to help pay for parts of construction.

“As funds become available through state funding we will be taking down the Fine Arts and Child Development Center buildings.”

The cleared out space where these buildings are now will be replaced by the new Burnight Center and a new Media Arts Complex.

As for what is in construction now, Robert Riffle, director of Physical Plant for Cerritos College, said, “We have plenty going on right now. There is the Aquatics Complex, SS Building upgrades and the Classroom/Lab/Office Building on the side of campus that faces Studebaker just to name a few.”

The Aquatics Complex will house two new pools; a competitive pool and an adaptive pool that will be less than four feet deep and have a built in ramp for handicap accessibility.

The Social Science Building upgrades include a new carpet, fresh coats of paint and sound-proofing.

And as for the CLO building; this will house Technology and Science Engineering and Math Division classes, as well has offices for deans and instructors for each course.
