A free immunization clinic will be available for the H1N1 vaccines on Wednesday.
The services will be provided by the Student Health Services and will be held in gym from 10:30 a.m’ to 3 p.m.
There will be 600 vaccines to be given out and will either run until 3 p.m. or until they run out.
The H1N1 vaccines are provided by the LA Department of Health Services.
Nancy Montgomery, Health Services Coordinator plans for another clinic for the next week if more vaccines are needed.
So far, 400 injections have been given in the Health Service Center.
The community at Cerritos College is high priority for the H1N1 vaccines because the H1N1 flu targets 3-26 age range.’
Pregnant women are at higher risk for obtaining the Swine flu and are advised to get the vaccine.
Most people have no immunity to the H1N1 flu, and if contracted, their bodies are not prepared to fight the virus.
An inactivated (dead virus) vaccine will be injected.
Nurse practitioner and Clinical Supervisor of Student Health Center, Debbie Binning said the swine flu has been around for many years, it is just a different strain and it is highly recommended to take the necessary precautions.
If students miss the Wednesday’s clinic, walk-ins to the Health Student Center are welcomed and will still be free of charge.
