Phil Okoli Mens soccer season ends`

The Falcons played a hard soccer game against the College of the Canyons Nov 23. with both teams putting their bodies of the line, but the Falcons fell short in their second round of playoff game 2-1.

“The men played a very great game, but (Canyon) just got the better opportunities to score” Head Coach Benny Artiaga said.

Both teams were playing a calm but physical game in the first half, with a Canyon player getting a foul in the first 2 minutes.

Players like forwards Chadd Johnson and Tony Serhal were trying to stay physical on the field to top Canyon.

At the half, both teams were even with the scores at zero each.

Canyon stepped up in offense in the in the 47th minute when it scored its first goal, playing a rather calm game in the first half.

Falcons forward Ruben Gonzalez followed right after to bring the score back to a tie, 1-1.

The game seemed to be even up until Canyon took the opportunity of a corner kick to use it as an assist in the 61st minute.

The Falcons were playing hard, with goalie Jhovanny Hernandez making many saves in the clutch, but they failed to come back and answer with another goal.

At the end of the game, the Falcons were heartbroken with a few players crying because of the disappointment. Players were so sad that none were happy enough to comment on the game.

The Falcons’ season ended with the record 11-3-9.

The loss today ended its five year non losing streak on their home field, which was 23-0-6 prior to the game.

“A playoff loss like today’s game is always saddening, since the men just began getting serious the second half of the season. This was saddening more because we haven’t lost on our field since 2005.” Artiaga said.
