Student looks to break pro wrestling record

Cerritos Colleges own professional wrestler, Kinesiology Major Michael Inman will be looking to break a Guinness World Record by having the longest match in recorded history on Jan.8 at the Arena Sports in Wildomar, Calif from noon to 7 pm.

Inman, who goes by the name “Rockstar” Mike Cordova, will be having his longest match against fellow “Epic War Wrestling” wrestler Jaysin Strife in a seven-hour Iron Man match.

Iron Man rules require opponents wrestle for a certain time limit, and whoever gets the most pins, submissions, or wins by disqualification, wins the whole match.

“(The match) was presented to me as an opportunity, and I took it upon myself to actually do it. I mean, this is history-making,” Inman said.

The longest pro wrestling match prior to this match was set in December of 1920, where Ed Lewis and Joe Stecher wrestled a five-and-a-half-hour match ending in a draw.

Compared to matches today, the matches are quite longer. On average, matches that are similar to the Ironman match have only been an hour.

“Wrestling was quite different than it is today,” Inman said, “(wrestling) today is more of a sports entertainment”

Inman began training to become a wrestler in 1996 under Jesse Hernandez and Bill Anderson in their School of Hard Knocks training school, and got his first match in 2000, and just began to wrestle on a regular basis for the company Epic War in 2008.

This is the biggest match and event in his career.

“This match is building my foundation of my career. (In my career), I haven’t won any championships, and I haven’t really had any major (feuds), so this match is like my championship– I’m going to give 110 percent.”

“Both of us (opponents) are trying to prove ourselves” Inman said.

The match was set to take place on Dec. 18 the Murrietta Community Center, in a six hour match, but legendary Pro Wrestling reporter, and current editor of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer pointed out that there was in fact a match that was longer than six hours.

With that being the case, Inman has been training harder  than previously make sure that he can complete the record

“Please come out and support. I’m the good guy, I definitely need all the cheers and support I can get [Strife and I] can do this, all I need is support from my fellow Falcons, family and friends. I have a big task ahead of me,” Inman said.
