Students find their true colors

The True Colors Workshop, sponsored by the Adult Re-entry Resources Program, took place on March 15, classifies personality types in four different colors: blue, green, gold and orange.

The workshop was for the students who were not sure which major and career to pursue according to Counselor Veronica Herrera.

About 12 people were present in the workshop, some of them were here for to get extra credit while others where in attendance to find their true personality traits.

Jeison Aguilar, art design major, said, “It really helped me find my true color, and showed me which career to choose.

“What I do in this workshop is help students explore their natural gifts and talents. I tell students that these gifts not only make up who they are; they are essential to their success in their chosen career,” Herrera said.

This was the first time Cerritos College held a true color workshop on campus; the workshop will be expanded next time.

Re-entry Resources Specialist Shannon Estrada, said, “Every student interacted with each other, we distributed fliers all around the campus, kept in club boxes, classrooms, in teachers mailbox and in the library.”

Herrera has been doing such workshops in different community colleges, high schools and middle schools.

She has been a  certified trainer since 2006 and she also is a strengths quest trainer, which focuses on helping people identify their top five natural strengths or gifts.

“Most students like the workshop. However, I do have to clarify that at first it feels as though you are being boxed in, but I explain to students that this is only a tool.

“True Colors becomes a starting point. Discovering who you are is a process that takes a lifetime. The beauty in this process is that the more experiences you have and the older you get, you begin to really know who you are,” Herrera said.
