California State University Board of Trustees approved a 9 percent tuition hike for the Fall 2012 semester during a meeting Nov. 16. The increase marks the second hike that trustees approved this year.
Trustees voted nine to six for approval, which prompted protests that resulted in several arrests in Long Beach where the meeting took place.
The increase could impact Cerritos College students.
In July, CSU trustees had already approved a 12 percent increase in tuition for this fall semester.
“It’s not fair,” Miledy Hernandez, business administration major, said, “students sacrifice a lot when they go to school.
“It would be like $500 more and that’s a lot of money. I don’t qualify for financial aid so I pay for everything out of pocket. $500 is a lot of money when the state does not me pay for it,” Hernandez, who plans to transfer to a Cal State, said.
