Financial allocation subject of ASCC survey

The Associated Students of Cerritos College conducted a preliminary survey in November to determine where it should allocate its $1.5 million reserve funds if given the chance next semester.

David Aguirre, commissioner for student services, said that the account has grown to the amount because the ASCC has been advised in the last several years to save the money it receives from student fees and from programs like athletics and culinary arts.

“The whole purpose of the survey was to get a heads-up on what the students know about the resources available to them,” Aguirre said.

Aguirre said the ASCC wants to invest some of the money into the resources that students are unaware of or have trouble with.

“If it’s the students’ money then we should give it back to them,” Aguirre said.

The survey sampled 170 students regarding various resources around campus. The questions asked if students knew if the resources existed and if they have ever used them.

“This survey was not a great representation of the student body,” Aguirre said. “We do not have the manpower to do that. We hope the next round of surveys will be more accurate.”

Aguirre said the ASCC is forming a 15-member committee to see the survey through, which will resume in January.
