Two Track and Field athletes for Cerritos College participated in the Southern California Heptathlon and Decathlon event on April 10 and 11, as Sifuentes Angel finished in seventh place with a score of 4063, and Tuki Sauvao, who finished in 13th place with 3578 points.

All colleges from California competed in the event.

The event Heptathlon consisted of eight events for women, and the Decathlon was eight events for men.

Half of the events were held the first day and the remaining half the next day.

The event is based on a point system. Running events involving the time taken in completing a given distance, and field events, such as the number points earned through scoring such as in javelin or shot-put were all factored into the scoring of the events.

Nicholas Armstrong, Track and Field assistant coach for Cerritos College said that although our athletes are brand new to the event, they are pretty good throwers and it is here that they are expected to shine most.

In comparison to Cerritos College, Fullerton College also had two athletes participating, and was expected to be in the top eighth in both the events, according to its head coach, Gina Bevec.

Jordon Morris, from Riverside City College, completed 100 meters, and said it took him 11.2 seconds to run.

Not all colleges are participating in both the events. Saddleback College, for instance, competed only in the decathlon, but was expected to finish within eighth, as per head coach Mark Blethen.

Many of the athletes unlike those from Cerritos College were not new to this event. Cuesta College, according its coach, last year, had one athlete who competed in the decathlon, and two in the heptathlon and are really hoping to do well.
