Attorney Nadadur Kumar and International Student Center member David Tilahum led an Immigration seminar for Cerritos’ Students on April 11.

The seminar was directed toward students who are in the United States on either a work or student Visa and students who are not citizens.

The information was given to help these students extend their Visas, obtain green cards and guide some of them into becoming citizens.

There was a lot of diversity among the 13 students who attended and spoke English as a second language. Students from China, Taiwan, Mexico, and Sri Lanka attended.

Speech language pathology major Shi Heng Wu who is here on a student visa attended the seminar to find out information on how to extend her stay in the U.S.

“The process can be a bit complex and I found out a lot of information that will be helpful,” Wu said.

Kumar explained in great detail the process of obtaining a H-1B Visa which is a visa used by an alien who is employed temporarily in a specialty occupation which requires a bachelors degree.

“Many students are unaware of the type of Visas and which ones you need to get and how,” said Kumar.

Kumar has worked with many people helping them qualify for green cards and visas.
