Nancy Morones, president of the Chicanos Latinos For Community Service Club was just one of the many club presidents encouraging students to become members during Club Info Day at Cerritos College on Wednesday, Sept. 5 and Thursday, Sept. 6.

Members handed out flyers, pamphlets, surveys, and information about their particular points of interest, activities, and meeting place and time.

“There’s not a lot of people out here as opposed to last semester, I definitely see a lot less tables than I usually do, it’s disappointing,” Geology Club President Billy Lav said.

According to the Anime Club President German Sanchez, there were about 25 clubs total last semester, 10 clubs more than this year’s Club Info Day.

Some clubs tried the outgoing approach and offered treats such as ice cream, candy, and pins of different sorts to draw the students’ attention.

Literature Club President Josh Craft said about Club Info Day, “The clubs gather in Falcon Square and later on in the Social Science patio to get people to join their clubs and have a good time.

“It’s a great opportunity for students to get involved in all sorts of activities.”

On Sept. 5, the event took place during two different times, a day portion from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a night portion from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

However, on Sept. 6 the event only took place during the day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Lav added, “Having club info day two days in a row is a very good idea though because it’s only for a few hours, each segment, and so you give a chance to the night class portion of the students to explore the clubs at a convenient time for them.”

With all the clubs providing information and insight on their foundations and activities, students had lots of opportunities to meet new people, explore new concepts, and learn about different kinds of approaches to school and life.

Others, such as the Anime and Sci Fi clubs, provided students with a little entertainment by having Sanchez wear a robot head with flashing red lights as eyes for the students to enjoy.

“It is very exciting to be able to have a club where people can talk about comic books and movies or just about anything that has very little to do with school, in a sense, it’s a nice twist,” Sanchez said.

He added, “I hope to be vice president of the Sci-Fi Club but we’re not sure yet. In the mean time, club info day is a great way to get involved in extracurricular matters and I encourage people to do so.”
