Health program looking for student ambassadors to “Sweat Pink”

College students don’t always make the best health decisions and can sometimes be tempted with unhealthy habits.

“Whether it’s late night pizza runs, sleeping late, or midterm cram sessions filled with sugary snacks, it’s easy to neglect our bodies and our fitness,” Rebecca Stifter, the head of Sweat Pink, said.

Sweat Pink is a free program available to college and high school students that promotes lifelong health and wellness.

Stifter explained the reason behind the program.

“We wanted to give college students opportunities to connect in healthy, active, and fun ways while also providing them (students) with the tools they need to stay motivated to maintain their health and fitness amidst all the temptation.”

The program was funded by the founders of FitApproach about a year ago, but it just started to specifically welcome college and high school students around the nation.

Sweat Pink is currently looking for ambassadors to help students overcome these type of temptations, and joining the program isn’t hard.

Stifter said, “Once you have applied and been accepted into the program, you will receive Sweat Pink shoelaces for yourself and to share with friends and access to a network of other college students involved.”

Criminal justice major Dijohnae Murphy is part of the Cerritos College women’s basketball team, and likes the idea of Sweat Pink coming to campus.

“I think it’s a good program because athletes can be involved. A lot of people say they are born the way they are, but if you exercise and you eat right, outcome will pay off. Working out everyday is positive and it’s good for them.”

Sweat Pink chooses its ambassadors based on their story.

Stifter said, “We want to know about them, what makes them tick, what makes them get off the couch and get moving, and what health and fitness goals are. Those stories are really the most important thing to us.”

Undecided major Cesar Rivas said he would like to be participate with Sweat Pink, but not necessarily be an ambassador.

“It is important to work out, obesity leads to other health problems like diabetes,” he said.

If you happen to become an ambassador of Sweat Pink, according to Stifter, the following are the types of activites that you will host.

“Sweat Pink yoga, bootcamp, and other fitness classes and events on campuses aiming to inspire millions of students to lead healthier, more active lives.”
