Wanted individual arrested after hours at school library

Cerritos College police officers arrested a suspicious individual found in the school library on Monday, Nov. 26.

According to Cerritos College Police Chief Richard Bukowiecki, a male individual, who had no legitimate business on school property, was discovered inside the Cerritos College Library by campus police officers during a routine patrol at 10:15 p.m.

The individual was deemed suspicious since he was located inside the library after closing time.

According to the library page of the Cerritos College website, the 2012 fall library hours are:

  • Monday – Thursday: 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The campus police officers questioned the individual and ran his name through the system.

The officers discovered that the individual was not a Cerritos College student, is 25 years old, and had warrants adding up to $75,000 out for his arrest.

The officers then arrested the individual.

The Cerritos College Police Department contacted the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department and informed it on the capture.

Cerritos College police officers turned over the individual into the custody of the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department.

The individual was booked in the Norwalk County Sheriffs Station.

ASCC President Lance Makinano was surprised to hear that campus police arrested an individual who had no business on school property.

“I’m really impressed. I applaud them,” Makinano said.

He added, “I’m just glad that they did catch this man and I’m just glad that they we’re able to prevent anything from happening.”

Undecided major Angelica Dayan finds the discovery of the wanted individual on school property unsettling.

“I feel uncomfortable about it,” Dayan said.

Although Dayan is unsettled by the situation, she does feel better that Cerritos College Police Officers are actively patrolling the school in search on suspicious activity.

“It’s good that they are doing their job. That makes it safer for us.”

The Cerritos College Campus Police Department urge people to report suspicious activity to the Cerritos College Campus Police Department at: (562) 860-2451 ext. 2325.
