The Cerritos College Dream Club hosted its first ever statewide California Community Colleges Support Undocumented Students call into action week from Oct.15-19.

This “UndocuResource Fair” all week event provides current and incoming undocumented students with workshops and information about financial aid counseling, career services, legal referrals and other resources in regarding DACA renewal assistance.

This is the first year that Cerritos College was invited to host an event to participate for the “Call To Action” week from the Into Action Organization.

Dream Club co-president Mariela Quinonez said, “[Into Action Organization] sent us everything, the butterfly tattoos and resources of information to campus.”

Co-advisor of the Dream Club Rosa Carrillo said, “This is a statewide endeavor for undocumented students to advocate and spread awareness on campus by providing awareness.”

Carrillo also said,”The Academic Senate for California Community Colleges gave us a grant, so we can provide immigration services to our students.”

Each day of the “Call To Action week” provided different workshops on information about a meeting with an immigration attorney, the Dream Act, EOPS, postcard signing to congress, financial aid and an additional activity of a community painting of the monarch butter as a symbol of the undocumented community.

The Dream Club hopes that by hosting this event it will help spread awareness and give helpful resources for not only undocumented students, but for all students to support them for a possible immigration reform.

Co-advisor of the event and co-chair of UndocuAlly Taskforce Dr. Lynn Wang said, “We are trying to encourage congress people to push for an immigration reform and advocate for everyone and not only for DACA students.”

“This isn’t an only a Cerritos College event but a nationwide event that shows support for undocumented students,” said co-president of the Dream Club Cesar Hernandez.

“It’s important to bring awareness to this school. I think we as students can bring in a huge impact and it’s important to demonstrate support and awareness.” stated Dream Club member Stephanie Guerrero.
